The patterned rays of sunlight reflected onto the amber eyes of Dusk. She gently lifted her muzzle, inhaling the sweet summer air as she headed for a walk on the outskirts of her clan. Her leader Eaglestar, had not been very kind to his beloved cousin as the remains of her depression filled his clan with stress. After leaving her abusive clan she was born in, her parents’ souls still rested in her thoughts. Those petrifying memories of walking by the lake, seeing her mother killed by the claws of the clan cats. For she had had a kit, two kits actually, with the broad shouldered tom Falconclaw who patrolled all boundaries, just to see hear her soothing voice each time she visited him. The results of two kits were unable to hide for now the clans were upset with their broken promises of love. Two brave she-kits, one each of opposite personalities, opposite strengths; lay Willow and Dusk.
Just keep walking, she thought. Maybe the time of her freedom was now, to finally get out of her duties just for a short while. A few voices interrupt the silence that filled her ears. She crept closer to a large birch tree whose branches were used of two cats. A black and white she-cat and a brown tom.
“Of course I’ll be your mate.” The soft voice of the she-cat whispered to the tom. He purred delightfully. Dusk sat back relieved glad the two cats were no imposters. The four eyes from above gazed down at her, catching her presence.
“Congratulations.” Dusk says, licking the two paws that kept in front of her.
The brown muscular tom claws down the tree, his tail brushing against the she-cats ears as she followed him down.
“Thanks.” He smiled. The she-cat padded in front of Dusk, examining her closely.
“I’m Dusk.” Dusk’s eyes fell down to her paws. She had always been shy toward new encounters. Especially with a handsome tom like the one she saw now.
“I am Bramble. And this is my new mate, Nightpaw.” Bramble says proudly. Bramble had pure green eyes, similar to Dusks, and a brown pelt marked with the features of a tabby. The she-cat had blue eyes, white paws and a black pelt.
“I better get going.” Nightpaw abruptly states. She was heading to her clan now, and to Dusks predictions the tom that sat before her was a loner, with a mate as a clan cat.
Before Dusk could say a single word, Bramble interrupts, “So, do you want to race?” His eager senses made Dusk a little happier. She felt more comfortable with any cat that treated a new friend as a friend you already can be yourself with.
Before they both knew it, Dusk was climbing higher and higher in the trees, reaching for the finish line as Bramble took his path at the forest ground. The lake was no far ahead, waiting for a contestant to reach its surface. Almost there, she thought. Spotting Dusk’s speed, Bramble smirked as he balanced his speed with Dusk, who fortunately already made a splash into the lake.
“Haha I win!” Dusk said, with Bramble by her side in the water. Bramble paddles underneath the surface swimming faster with pride.
“I can do that too!” Dusk dunks her body deeper in the water, forgetting to hold her breath as she drowns in the depths of the ripples. The dark thin water masked over her nose, as her paws thrash in the air.
“Dusk!” Bramble grabs her by the scruff pulling her up. “Are you okay?” He bellows.
He frowns at her reply when he sees it was a nod. “Well what do you think you are a fish?” He laughs.
“I guess so.”
