Dragons in Peril
Part 1
By Malaya
Peril
"When you're done saving the world, come back and visit me sometime." I said.
"Of course. Goodbye, Peril."
"Bye."
I fluttered my wings and lifted into the air, heading back towards the SkyWing Kingdom. I held out my talons, where Clay's had been. I looked back to try and see them, but they had camoflauged into the river bank. I faced forward again and flew towards the queen's palace.
"Welcome back," a voice said as I landed. "Did you go to say goodbye to your boyfriend?"
It was Queen Scarlet. I growled under my breath. She had lied to me, and I would never forgive her for that.
But Clay was handsome. He was the only dragon I loved, and the only dragon that loved me. And he is the only dragon that can touch me.
I was born with too much fire. All SkyWings can breathe fire, but my scales are hotter than fire. If any dragon touches me, they'll burn to a crisp.
Except Clay.
Because he was born from an egg the color of dragon blood.
MudWings that are born from eggs the color of dragon blood are immune to fire.
I stretched up my neck and turned away from Queen Scarlet.
"Don't give me that attitude." she growled. "Do you want to get punished?"
"Yeah? And how do you propose to do that? Put me in the dungeon? I'll go through any ropes, chains or bars like they were made of water. I'd like to see how you'd punish me." I said turning away and stomping defiantly into my room. I curled up on the floor.
Amber
"Peril?" I whispered, standing in the entrance of my best friend's room.
I watched her turn her head around to face me.
"Oh, hi, Amber." she said.
"What are you up to?" I asked.
"Well, there's not much that a dragon that burns anything she touches to do." she replied, holding out her talons.
"There is one thing. And that's burning." I said, looking at the potrait of Queen Scarlet on the wall.
"Oh yeah, I forgot that was there." Peril said, walking up to it.
I took a dep breath, ready to blast it with fire.
"No." Peril said. "Let's make it long and painful.''
She ran a talon up Queen Scarlet's neck, up to her chin, burning through the paper.
"What if she tried to escape while you did that?" I asked mischeviously.
Peril smiled and slashed through the wings. I watched the paper fall into burning ash on the floor.
Soon we were burning it and laughing, flapping our wings instead of high-fiving.
"WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE?" I harsh voice yelled behind us.
It was Queen Scarlet.
]Peril stepped in front of me and spread her wings to sheild me from Queen Scarlet.
"Just.. renovating." she said.
"This doesn't look like renovating. This looks like you disrespect me. And you shall be punished for it!"
"Oh yeah? And how do you think you'll punish me, huh?"
"Oh, I won't punish you. I will punish your little friend there. Let's see.. who should go in the gladiator fight with her tomorrow.. You'll just have to find out!" she said almost pleasantly to me. "Now go back to your cave whereever you live, peasant." she spat. "Leave my castle, now."
I rushed out as quickly as possible and flew home.
Peril
"It's me, isn't it? Her opponent?" I asked Queen Scarlet as soon as Amber left.
"Oh, you bet you are."
"Well, I'm not gonna fight her. We're best friends." I said.
"Let's see how friendly you are when you burn her to a crisp." she retorted.
"I wouldn't! I wouldn't fight her!" I shouted.
"Let's see about that." Queen Scarlet smirked, turning around and walking away.
When she turned around, I aimed straight for the spot on her back, between her wings, and leapt.
"YOUR MAJESTY!!" a guard yowled when he saw me jump.
While I was still in midair, Queen Scarlet thrust back her elbow and knocked me on the chin. I slid across the floor. Then everything went black.
Queen Scarlet
I grasped my blackened, burnt elbow and glared at the unconcious body in front of me.
"How dare she?" I hissed, trying to remain queenly in front of the remaining guard.
I fluttered my wings royally and walked away.
Amber
I nervously paced the cave floor. Who would Queen Scarlet put out there with me? I had the vague guess that she would put out Peril. But I would never ever ever fight her.
But would Peril fight me?
She wouldn't. She's my best friend! Queen Scarlet can't beat us. Especially together.
Peril
I grasped a talonful of the ash from Queen Scarlet's potrait. I stared at it, crumbling in my palm. I thrust it at the wall before it completely dissinegrated.
"I won't fight her. No matter what she might say." I muttered to myself.
